GENERALIZED ANXIETY
in Adolescents
Teens and Tweens can experience anxiety about many different things in their lives. This anxiety can interfere with their family relationships, social relationships, their ability to focus on schoolwork and extracurricular activities. They also have added pressures of peers, changing bodies, new relationships, and pressure to perform at school.
Treating Anxiety
Tweens and Teens
It is important to treat anxiety in teens and tweens with therapies that not only target their symptoms, but it is also important to give them the tools so they can manage difficult emotions in years to come. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, stress-reducing skills, and other therapies are used to help young people achieve their goals. We often include the parents in therapy to improve communication skills and help support the teen.
