In order to reduce the anxiety they feel about these thoughts they will perform compulsions such as seeking assurance, checking locks, repeating words, counting, hand washing and other compulsions. Exposure and response prevention is the recommended therapy for children, but there are circumstances when a child will benefit from medication.
